Enjoy Holidays in Lanzarote

Lanzarote is a Spanish owned island located off the coast of West Africa. Part of the seven strong Canary Islands chain. Which is very popular with holidaymakers from Germany, the UK and Eire. Thanks to the fact that the island enjoys great weather all year round and is home to some fantastic beaches.

As a result holidays in Lanzarote are taken by million of tourists every year. The bulk of them staying in one of the three main resorts of Playa Blanca, Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise. Which is where the bulk of the best villas and apartments in Lanzarote can be found.

Getting to Lanzarote is easy – especially from the UK. As the island is served by all of the main airlines and budget flight operators, including Thomas Cook, Monarch and easyJet. As a result ticket prices are reasonably priced – despite the fact that the island is a four hour flight from the UK.

There is no shuttle bus service between the main airport – called Arrecife – and the resorts. So tourists arriving on Lanzarote either have to queue for a taxi or book a rental vehicle. Fortunately car hire in Lanzarote is reasonably priced – with a weeks hire starting at about €95 for a small, two door model.

Hiring a car is also the best thing to do if you plan to get out and explore Lanzarote´s many attractions. As the local bus service is infrequent outside of the main resorts and doesn’t even run to many of the biggest sights – such as the Timanfaya National Park.

This is arguably the most surreal national park in Spain – as instead of trees and forests visitors are instead confronted by the sight of volcanoes and lava fields. Which were created by massive eruptions during the 1730´s. That aside though there is no denying the raw, natural beauty of this area and Timanfaya is widely regarded as a real national treasure in Spain.

Beach lovers will adore Lanzarote – as the island is home to around 90 great stretches of sand. Many first time visitors expect to find themselves sunbathing on black sand beaches as these are the norm on other Canary Islands. But despite Lanzarote´s volcanic origins all but a handful of the beaches on the island are in fact made up of golden grains. With some of the beaches in the main resorts created by importing sand from the Sahara desert. Which is located some 100 miles away on the African mainland.
